NEIL SMITH
Neil has 30 years experience in the Quality, Environment, Health and Safety fields. Over this period Neil has personally implemented and has successfully listed several companies to the requirements of ISO9001, ISO14001 and OSHAS18001. This includes experience with Volkswagen's "formal Q" Quality Management System and VDA6 which has resulted in wide experience (6 years) obtained in the automotive industry. Neil also has 24 years in the domestic appliance manufacturing industry and was responsible for obtaining ISO9001 listing for three plants belonging to Defy Corporation. His process experience include injection molding, thermoforming, plastic extrusions, metal pressings, wire fabrication, polyurethane foaming, roller forming and automotive component assembly and has implemented effective process controls in these areas of manufacturing. His grounding in the Quality field started with 2 years in a metrology department of a major automotive supplier. Neil also has the unique qualification of having first hand knowledge of environmental issues having worked in a conservation NGO for 3 years and brings this knowledge to the Management Systems field and during the implementation of ISO14001. He also holds a diploma in Health and Safety management from the University of Cape Town which has given him the expertise to work across the complete scope of Health and Safety in manufacturing, construction and building compliance and in addition is qualified as a ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 (Health and Safety Management System) and VDA 6.3 internal auditor based on the ISO19011 guidelines for Management System Auditors. Neil is also a Technical Member of the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, the Governing body of Health and Safety practitioners in South Africa. More recently he has participated in several COVID 19 webinars held by the world International Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and the South African Institute for Occupational Health and has kept himself up-to-date on COVID 19 situation and approaches to the prevention of the disease transmission.
